General Information
BRIEF HISTORY University of Perpetual Help System came into being through the commitment of its founders Dr. Jose G. Tamayo, and Josefina L. Tamayo, our grandparents.

It started out as a hospital in 1996 called Perpetual Help Hospital in Laong Laan St., Sampaloc Manila. Dr. J. juggled from UST, who taught nursing subjects back to his hospital where he and his family resided.

Perpetual Help College of Manila was opened in 1968 with key course offering of nursing. Most of the graduates are now in the USA and formed themselves as Perpetual Association of America, and serves as direct linkage for Perpetual students.

In 1970, Perpetual Help College of Malasiqui was founded in order to accelerate development of health care and education in rural areas specially in Dr. J’s hometown in Pangasinan.

Dr. Jose and Josefina Tamayo’s eldest son Antonio L. Tamayo spearheaded the founding of another school dubbed as University of Perpetual Help Rizal in Las Pinas City in 1975. This paved the way for the opening of University of Perpetual Help Rizal Medical Center. Extension Programs for the said campuses’ academic oferring were built in Molino Campus in Bacoor Cavite and Calamba Campus which started their operations in 1996 and 1997 respectively.

The main campus of University of Perpetual Help System was built in Binan Laguna in 1976, with the specialization on different medical and health related courses. University of Perpetual Help Medicine and Health Science were opened in 1976. Thies also led to the establishment of Dr. Jose G. Tamayo Medical Center in 1977.

In 2004, the 8th campus of the University of Perpetaul Help System was opened in the province of Isabela with the 3rd generation of Tamayo’s, yours truly, with my friend from preschool Bernard, spearheading this endeavor.

We aim to bring Manila Education to the province of Isabela. It has always been our passion to be men for others. Ultimately, Bernard and I would like to serve the people of Isabela by providing added-value for our students.

With Eight (8) campuses and three (3) Medical Centers, University of Perpetual Help System is now ready to bring its graduates to the global arena.

The University of Perpetual Help System is a premier University that provides unique and innovative educational processes, contents and end-results for the pursuit of excellence in academics, technology and research through community partnership and industry linkage.

The University takes lead role as catalyst for human resource development, and continues to inculcate values as a way of strengthening the moral fiber of the Filipino individuals proud of their race and prepared for exemplary global participation in the realm of arts, science, humanities and business.

It sees the Filipino people enjoying quality and abundant life, living in peace and building a nation that the next generation shall be nourishing and valuing.



OUR MISSION
The University of Perpetual Help System is dedicated to the development of the Filipino as a leader. It aims to graduate dynamic students who are physically, intellectually socially and spiritually committed to the achievement of the best quality of life.

As a System of services in health and education, the University of Perpetual Help System is dedicated to the formation of Christian, services and research-oriented professionals, leaders and citizens with great social concern and with commitment to the delivery of quality education and health care.

It shall produce Perpetualites who outstanding value of reaching out and helping others as vital ingredients to nation building.

In July of 1994, after the designated committees had submitted their reports assuring the board of worthiness and the readiness of the colleges to work towards such goals, the board agreed to pursue university status through a system’s approach.

Three years of visitation, evaluation improvements and verifications from the Commission on Higher Education, the commission en banc, granted the University Status to the Perpetual Help System with campuses in Laguna and Rizal to assume the name “University of Perpetual Help System” effective Collegiate year (CY) 1997-1998.

In ceremonies held at the UPHS Performing Arts Theatre in Binan, Laguna on April 20, 1997, CHED Director Amelia Biglete handed to Dr. Jose G. Tamayo the charter granting the Perpetual Help System its University Status. The activity was lovingly dedicated to the pioneering spirit of the late Dr. Josefina Laperal Tamayo.

In keeping with its commitment to serve the educational needs of more communities, the University of Perpetual Help- GMA Campus was established in June 1997.

During the demise of the founding Father, Dr. Jose Tamayo in August 2002, his eldest son Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo was elected as the new Chief Executive officer and Chairman of the board.

In June 2003, UPHS – Isabela Campus was inaugurated. Looking towards the future, the University of Perpetual Help System shall continue to give special attention to the promotion and sustenance of the Perpetualite identity in all units as the ultimate of the Perpetual education.

UPHS PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES
The main aim of the institution is to participate in the production and the delivery of the total spectrum of education and health care so0 that as a private sector ,it could share in the nation’s education and health planning program, implementation thereby help accelerate national development by improving education and national health.

Consequently, the guiding objectives of the institution are embodied in the following statement:
1. Integration of health and education and health facilities, as well as educational and health programs.

2. Development of the Total Human Education in addition to the development of health skills.

3. Subscription to the Ladder Type Education with the idea that the product of each step in the ladder has a definite function to carry out in the delivery of the total spectrum of education and health care.

4. Progressive development of education and health workers from the lowest rank to those with the highest skills and training.

5. Adoption and implementation of “satellite” concept of extending education and health care to cover a wide area of the country as a unit of the Perpetual Help System in order to help solve the problems of lack of health care facilities, manpower and education in remote areas of the country.

Overall, the mission statement, philosophy and objectives of the University of Perpetual Help System Jonelta are in line with and supportive to the national development goals of the country and the policies, thrusts and objectives of higher education. The efforts of the University are focused on the continous upgrading of the quality of its education and health services.

On January 10, 1993, a top level joint meeting of the Board of Trustees and directors of the Perpetual Help System was convened at the Perpetual Help College of Laguna to pursue a comprehensive and integrated corporate planning process.

The objective was to obtain a through assessment of the status, conditions and performance of the two campuses to serve as basis for the thrust to apply for a university status.
